Since 2000, 10 community hospitals in New Hampshire have closed their labor and delivery units, placing increased burden on local EMS teams and hospital-based emergency medicine providers. Unplanned out-of-hospital births and deliveries in E.D.’s without Ob/Gyn and Pediatric consultants have been on the rise.
In response to this crisis, we are pleased to offer a comprehensive hands-on training course to EMS and Emergency Medicine professionals in communities impacted by loss of local maternity services. Developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) is designed to improve the management of normal deliveries, as well as obstetric emergencies by standardizing the skills of first responders, emergency personnel and maternity care providers.
