The D-H Muslim community welcomes members to join in Friday Jummah congregational prayer. The prayer service is held at 1:00 pm at DHMC.
For Muslims, Friday is considered the most blessed day of the week. Friday is particularly special because Muslims are commanded in the Quran to gather in the early-afternoon for a congregational prayer. In fact, the Arabic word for Friday is Jummah, which is the same word also used to denote this particular prayer, and translates to “congregation.” This Friday congregational (Jummah) prayer actually replaces one of the five prayers Muslims perform daily. The Friday Prayer (Jummah Prayer) consists of a short reminder (Khutbah) followed by a 2-unit ritual Prayer (Salah).
The service lasts about 15-20 minutes, after which we return to our duties for the day. Besides being an integral religious act, the gathering allows us to meet and greet each other and serves as a means for spiritual wellness and mental well-being.
