Facilitator: Megan Reed, Dementia Resource Specialist

Designed to empower care partners to address issues and concerns associated with caregiving for someone with dementia, this educational series will cover a different topic each month. The sessions will provide an opportunity for caregivers to learn from and converse with experts in the field. Topics and speakers will change monthly based on what is current and relevant to caregivers in our support groups.

February’s topic: Hospice and Palliative Care for People Living with Dementia

People can live for many years with dementia, and the unpredictable, often slow, progressive decline they experience, can make it hard to see when a loved one is approaching end of life.  Add to this, our cultural misperceptions around hospice and palliative care and we find many families do not access the services and support they most desperately need as their loved one declines. The focus of this talk is to clarify the difference between hospice and palliative care and discuss the role of these services in the care of people living with dementia.

February’s speaker: Cynthia Stadler APRN, CHPN

Cynthia is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who has worked with Bayada Hospice for over 10 years.  She provides care for dying patients in their homes as well as hospice education to facility staff and communities throughout VT and NH. Both her parents died with dementia.
